Abstract: Clay minerals in matrix play a significant role in the processes of the deposition of organic matter, diagenesis,the generation and evolution of oil and gas. Focusing on the foundmental topics con cerning clay organic complex and catalytic activities,the author studied the function of clay minerals in the process of oil-gas generation and following secondary reworks. The results show that the catalysis of clay minerals should be regarded as a critical controlling factor over time and temperature dur ing the pyrolysis of organisms.
